Got the Flu? Beat it with 6 easy steps
Unfortunately the winter weather often brings with it coughs, colds and flu. Influenza can be very debilitating and it’s important to know what steps you can take to protect you and your family from infection. I have taken certain steps to prevent infection each winter and I mostly have a winter without a cough, cold or flu. So I wanted to share 6 simple steps I take that can work for you too.
Here are my 6 steps:
Homeopathy
Homeopathy has shown to be effective in not only treating but preventing flu. Oscillococcinum is the most used Influenza preventative medicine sold in France across ALL types of medicines including conventional. If you would like to come in for a preventative influenza Homeopathic consult book here. For homeopathic medicines to use if you already have Influenza take a look at Treating Influenza With Homeopathy.
Vitamin D
Trials have shown that Vitamin D plays an important and key role in the prevention of many diseases such as cancer but did you also know that it prevents upper respiratory infections too such as the flu? If you are unsure what your Vitamin D levels are it’s useful to get them checked via your doctor with a simple blood test. If they are low you can take a Vitamin D3 supplement to bring the levels back up.
Reduce Sugar Intake
The metabolism of sugar steals important nutrients such as Chromium from other processes in your body including those used to fight infection. If you are surrounded by coughs, colds and flu germs it’s important to eat a diet low in refined sugar and filled instead with important healthy wholefoods such as meat and fish, colourful vegetables and fruits as well as whole grains. This will support a health immune system.
Garlic
Garlic is an immune boosting food so eat your garlic raw if you can or cook with it during these winter months. If you are worried about breath odour you can buy an aged garlic supplement that is odourless and get your garlic that way.
Zinc
This is an incredibly important nutrient for your immune system as well as the ability of your skin to heal. You can find it in red meat, dairy, chicken, fish and eggs as well as sunflower and pumpkin seeds. Try adding seeds to your warming winter porridge in the form of LSA (Linseeds, Sunflower and Almond) powder which is easily available in your local supermarket.
Vitamin C
Another key nutrient for your immune function, Vitamin C can be found in fresh vegetables such as cabbage and broccoli but especially in citrus fruits, strawberries and kiwi fruits. If you are exposed to influenza then take 2-3 g daily as a regular dose through the Winter season.
