Raw juices for vibrant health!

I am often mentioning how to stay healthy and well it is not enough to just use Homeopathy and neglect other areas of your health. Instead you need to pay attention to your diet, exercise regime and your thoughts. There are several things that I do regularly to stay vibrantly healthy and full of energy and one of them is make a fresh, green juice every morning for myself and my family. If you are not already up to speed with the idea behind raw food, let me explain briefly.
Raw Food and Juices
Raw food contains important enzymes that are destroyed or de-natured when cooked so in eating raw food you not only provide extra nutritional beneifit to your body, but you also take in the enzymes that help the food to digest. This is turn means that to digest your food you do not need to use so much of your own energy and therefore you end up with an additional overall gain! In addition it is suggested that we are not made to eat cooked foods and that raw foods suit and alkinalise our bodies which promotes a disease-free state.
It is worth saying that this point that if you have a standard centrifugal juicer you will find it very difficult to juice greens with loads going in and not much juice if any, coming out. If you have what is called a masticating juicer, juicing greens is a breeze. In addition the centrifugal juices tend to heat the juice slightly and this means the enzymes will not last as long. With a masticating juicer, you can place you juice in a sealed thermos and enjoy it later in the day if you so wish, although fresher IS better!
Having been into eating raw foods for some years now I like to start my day with a green juice and the recipe we all enjoy most is here for you to share!
The Homeopathic Coach's Morning Juice recipe
It is important that all of the following ingredients are organic as you do not want to add some great pesticides in with your breakfast!
Dark leafy greens such as kale, beet, spinach - large handful
Slice beetroot
4 sticks celery
small cucumber
1/2 small lemon
2 apples
2-3 carrots
tiny slice of ginger
And if you want it to be very sustaining whizz half a ripe avocado afterwards to make it into a smoothie.
This recipe makes sufficient for a small glass for a family of four or enough for you to have two LARGE glasses each day.
Hope you enjoy it!

Sam,
I don't have a juicer ... and until I read the above recipe, was never sufficiently interested in following up. Question, could a newbee to this, use a strong blender ... and not destroy the greens?
Hi Sam:
Yum!
Just wanted to let Kari know that I use a BlendTec high powered blender to make my green juices and smoothies, my old Champion juicer would get so hot I'd have cooked spinach soup by the end of 1 round!
My fave morning drink is from Natalie Rose's book, Raw Food Detox Diet
Kale
apple
lemon
ginger
Juice (or put into blender w/ some water then strain through fine mesh bag) top with cayenne pepper and say HELLO WORLD!
:-)
Nancy
Yes Kari, absolutely. This is a good way to start so you can see how you get on. You would need as Nancy says a high powered blender and it would be a smoothie rather than a juice but that's great!
@Nancy...love that recipe...am gonna try it!
I have just bought a vitamix, could I use that to make the above? With the vitamix you put the whole food in and it mashes the whole thing into juice so in theroy it should be even better for you. I bought one because people like Karen KNowler rave about them. Just wanted to get your thoughts (I do have an oscar masticating juicer as well, but its much slower than the vitamix)
Cheers
Hi Dave,
If you can do this juice as a smoothie which means you also get the roughage as well then it would be excellent. I tend to find that celery is pretty fibrous (so not great for smnoothies) and also I use such add-ins as the stalks from fresh broccoli if I have made that for my family recently which also wouldn't be so great in a smoothie. (Incidentally, broccoli is potentially thyroid suppressant so not good for those on thyroid meds or those whose metabolism struggles at all. )
Try the juice in your Oscar first and then maybe give it a go in the voiamix using less greens proportionately otherwise the taste will be a little challenging I think and it HAS to taste good! :)
I love karen Knowler and think her recommendations are very sound so your Viatmix investment is a good one!
I would love it if you et me know here how you get on!
Happy Juicing Dave!
